After living in California for many years and eating Mexican food from the best places outside of Mexico, when I moved to RI to finish school I thought the Mexican food in RI was just bland and bad. RI doesn't seem to have a taste for Mexican food. Then I found this place. The food is just amazing. The owners are from the Mixtec area of southern Mexico. I have spent time in Oaxaca Mexico( it is part of the Mixtec area) and the food reminds me of my time there. This place even puts to shame a lot of the Mexican joints that I grew up on in California. Go here, you won't regret it.

Amazing authentic Mexican cuisine . If your going there don't expect to just have burritos flying out the window cause everything is made fresh pretty much right in front of you . I had an app order of chalupas and I was stuffed after just those. Seems the place is owned by a nice older couple that put there love of food into a business. Let me just start of by saying the only Mexican food I've ever eaten was Taco Bell and a Mexican restaurant in my homework of Seekonk called Tito's Cantina. So it was safe to say I had never had authentic Mexican food before. My girlfriend decided it was time for me to finally try real authentic Mexican food so she took me to TaquerÃa Lupita. I didn't know what to expect and was concerned I would absolutely hate it and crush my girlfriend's hopes and dreams of this place because she loves it. When you first walk in its a very tiny restaurant with limited seating. There is only about four or five tables so it's isn't the ideal place for a large group. Also the entire menu is in Spanish, so if you don't know Spanish you can still get by pretty well, but it would help to have someone who knows it. Mostly to explain what the foods are rather than to help order. The menu is surprisingly lengthy and is filled with a wide variety of authentic Mexican food. They have tamales, tacos, tostadas, burritos, and various soups such as spicy beef and vegetable, tortilla soups, and black bean soup. They also have seafood dishes and a dinner menu which includes carnitas, Adobo De Puerco, and Beef tongue in green sauce. The server provides you with free salsa (red and green) and be warned the green is very spicy. The chips included with the salsa are hand made in the restaurant as well as the salsa. The service was exceptional everyone was very nice and when my girlfriend was coughing from swallowing too big of a bite the waitress brought over a glass of water to make sure she was feeling better. With it being my first time my girlfriend suggested I get several different foods from the menu. So I decided to get two tacos one chicken (pollo) and one carne asada. You can get the tacos either on a corn or flour tortilla, both of which are also made in house. I decided to get both in the flour tortillas. Also the tacos are served with onions, cilantro, radishes, and lime in the taco. Then I also got a Red with Pork tamale, and a tostada. My girlfriend got the burrito and it was humongous. The food was amazing! I have never had anywhere with better Mexican food in my life. I kept telling my girlfriend as I approached the last bites of my food that I didn't want it to end. I just kept wanting more and more. The tacos were made to perfection, and all of the flavors worked so well together. I personally liked the carne asada taco better than the chicken taco. The tostada was so good as well and although it is difficult to eat, I found myself desperately wanting another one. The tamale was so tasty, I had never had a tamale before so when they served it to me in the corn husk I almost started eating the tamale while it was inside the corn husk. Luckily my girlfriend told me you have to unwrap the corn husk first to get to the tamale. I was able to have several bites of the burrito because like I said it was huge and just like everything else it was amazing. The prices at TaquerÃa Lupita are very fair. The tacos are $2 for corn tortillas and $2.50 for flour tortillas each. The burrito was $7.99, the tostada was $2.00, and the tamale was $2.00 each. The restaurant also has a special lunch menu from 11 AM - 3 PM. There is a catering menu if you want to have TaquerÃa Lupita cater a party of yours as well as pick up. There is no delivery for this establishment. Overall, TaquerÃa Lupita is the best Mexican food I've ever had and it should be everyones next stop for lunch or dinner. I will definitely be returning as soon as I can.

Fantastic food in a not-so-fantastic 'hood. Sometimes you gotta just bite the bullet (hopefully not literally) in order to find great Mexican food (and not that tex-mex crap). If you want authentic, mouth-watering, made with love food then head to Taqueria Lupita. Our server was literally running the joint when I went with a co-worker for a quick working lunch. I'm pretty sure he was taking orders, cooking, and serving everything. He was pretty good at multi-tasking. I ordered up three tacos, including the lengua (tongue), al pastore, and tinga (shredded chicken). They were out of barbacoa, but I survived. Oh, their barbacoa is goat, not beef just FYI. I was feeling adventurous. The prices are great, my friend's burrito was humongous, and their cold drinks include my favorite, mandarin jarritos. Everything was delicious, and I got a great lunch for ten bucks, including tip. The place is tiny, but week day lunch was rather slow paced. I could see it getting packed in the evenings. Well worth the trip in to Central Falls to this gem of a taqueria. Delicious.

The reviews weren't wrong on this one. Very good tacos, tamales and burritos. Guacamole was great, with chunks of tomatos, onions and cilantro...very flavorful. Small place with about 5 tables but we came on a Saturday around 6pm and were the only ones there for awhile until a few more tables filled up. We parked on street but it it were a busier time, I'm not sure where we would have found space. Maybe there's a lot we missed somewhere. I would definitely come here again.

Best Mexican food I've had in Rhode Island! It seems to be a mother-daughter operation. The owners are very friendly. We had the pineapple pork (al pastor) and goat tacos. The meat are very flavorful and corn tortillas terrific. They also sell the meats by the pound . Although the neighborhood isn't the best, I'll come back for the food. Everything is fresh and taste very yummy.

This place is the best of the best when it comes to Mexican. I'm from Lincoln and live 3 minutes away and I come here all the time. I've told my friends about this place and at first they were nervousness because it's in central falls but eventually caves because this place is so good. To all the people talking about how the location is so important and how it's in a bad area - especially you Jaclyn P from Barrington - this is the nice part of CF. Clearly you've never been to south providence if you think Dexter street is the "elephant in the room". I come here anytime I want Mexican. The family is nice and the portions and price are perfect.

Eh. We tried this place because it had so many good reviews on yelp. It was just OK... but barely just OK. We wish we'd stuck with Taco Mix which we really love. Admittedly, having lived in OC CA, we find the Mexican food here plain, kinda odd and woefully disappointing, but Taco Mix is about as good as it gets this North East of the border. Taqueria Lupita's complimentary chips and salsa were eh OK - served in cute piggie bowls and our side of guacamole with lots of fresh cilantro was reaaaaally reeeeaaaalllly good ;). Sadly our burritos had none of the menu's promised guacamole (such a major disappointment when you don't eat meat... iceberg lettuce and black beans does not make a good cohesive burrito!). It was so bland and blah and I didn't even keep the leftovers (and I ALWAYS keep my leftovers ;) We wouldn't go back or recommend it. Sigh.

The absolute best Mexican food in all of RI. Having grown up in Houston as a Mexican, I have had quite a bit of Mexican food in my lifetime. The tamales rival those lovingly made by my grandmother. And yes Mexican food is regional, just like American. Everything is fresh and lots of lime makes it even better. If you are used to Tex-Mex or chain-type Mexican food then you may not appreciate how good their food is. FYI, sour cream is not Mexican, nor is yellow processed cheese, so don't expect that on your plate. Do expect authentic, delicious cooking. And the mole is perfect. I love how other's are concerned about the neighborhood. We ride our bikes here and never have had even the slightest issue. Actually the drivers are more polite than those in most areas we ride. It's also offensive to describe it as being in the ghetto, look up the history of that word. The owners and their family are wonderful. We love to support small local businesses such as theirs.

Ok. Let's address the elephant in the room here folks....the neighborhood isn't the greatest. To be quite frank, I would not venture here alone and I probably wouldn't chance it if we hadn't found a parking spot directly across the street from the restaurant. That being said, round up as many friends as you can and make your way to Taqueria Lupita. If it were not for the the locale, it'd be a 5 star for sure! The couple that owns the restaurant is so friendly and welcoming. The menu is varied enough but definitely authentic. We started with chips and guac, of course - so fresh and served with the classic red and green sauces. My husband ordered the the spicy chicken soup and basically fell in love at the first bite. He was also enamored with the tamale he ordered. My fish tacos were delicious and very generously portioned. I loved that I could watch my tortillas being made to order right in the kitchen. We ordered a few drinks and home made flan for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. The decor is a little bare-bones but honestly the food more than makes up for it!

Yes! For all of those transplanters in Providence who once lived among Mexican expats, this is a great place to eat. The plates of food that came out had some of the best presentation I've ever seen. We were star struck by how nice they looked for just a few tacos or tortilla casserole. I've eaten at some fancy places and this ranks right up there with them. Don't let the decor fool you. This family knows what they are doing in the kitchen. Although they do have vegan options. Yeah. That's right. They have food that vegans can eat. I tried a variety of tamales and tacos and although they were all amazing- the Al Pastor was so good that I thought I was dreaming. Big hunks of lean pork and pineapple in a red sauce. Oh... I'll be back. Oh yes I will. Here's the down side that took the 5th star from my love of this place. The prices. What would have made them perfect is tamales and tacos for less than $2 instead of $2 each. Fickle, aren't I?

This place was awesome! We went there on Cinco De Mayo for lunch. We ate chips and salsa (comes with 2 salsas green and red) a side of rice and beans 2 tacos and 2 tostadas. I ate 1 carnitas taco and a beef taco. They were absolutely amazing. Such simple flavors and very fresh and authentic. My co worker got 2 steak tostadas that were piled high with fresh ingredients. We split the rice and beans. Total out meal was $14.58 !! Such a great deal. We left really full and happy! We will deff be going back there! Also you can call ahead and then eat your food there. It's a really small place so calling ahead is a good idea.

If you are not afraid to drive through the ghetto to get here, it is a great eatery. Very unassuming and with no bells and whistles in the decor. It is straight forward Mexican food and delicious at that. We had the guacamole and it left me wanting another order. The tamales were pretty good and the carne asada tacos were delicious. I would have the sangria, but avoid the tap water. Central Falls isn't known for great tasting tap water.

This place may not be much to look and and the location may be a bit sketchy, but they are pushing out some really good food here. My husband had beer (bottles only) and I had some delicious sangria. We ordered too much food. They brought up chips with a red and green sauce to start. We started with the guacamole, which was freshly made, only $2.50, and perfect. We also ordered the chicken quesadillas which were great. You could easily make a meal out of that. I had the chicken mole. The chicken was on the bone and still had the skin on. I know it makes me a lazy American, but I prefer my chicken boneless and skinless. Having said that, it came off the bone real easily and the mole sauce was very flavorful. Rice and beans also came with it and they both got a thumbs up. My husband ordered the filete de pescado and got quite a few large chunks of white fish. His was served with rice and lettuce, to ago and avocado. Thumbs up from him as well. Fresh tortillas were served with both. I would definitely return, I would just order less food.

Taqueria Luptia, you make my Texan belly so happy. I'll say that the location of this place is not the best as there is only street parking available. Still totally worth the trip. For sure. Ryan D. and I have our go-to places for Mexican in Cranston and on Broadway St. but I've heard people rave about this place for months so we deiced that it was finally worth a try. Btw, we've been to this place twice in two weeks. Walking into this little place, it reminds me of the local places in South Texas. Authentic decorations and it's family-owned (which I LOVE). We sat down and took a look at the menu. Guys, they have fresh guacamole for $2.50! How fresh you might ask? I watched the guy cut open a brand new avocado to make it. INSANE price considering most places charge upwards of $9.00 for "fresh" guacamole. Oh yeah, it tastes AMAZING too. I went with three tacos that had pork, fresh chorizo and carne asada. So good. Fresh and delcious and made with lots of love. Ryan ordered a torta with carnitas and he inhaled it. Duh. During our second trip to this joint, I ordered their homemade sangria and it is incredible. I'm obsessed. In short, try this place. It's cheap, genuine and delicious.

Ahh Taqueria Lupita, where can you not go wrong. Have you been looking for Taco Bell prices but some quality (and authentic) Mexican? Well TL is definitely where you need to go. I was honestly skeptical because I have hit up the usual Providence area Mexican places and figured, eh could just be another ok Mexican. Nope, this is a family run, really good Mexican place that you might accidentally drive by if you aren't looking. Everything on the menu is great, Tortas, tacos, meat dishes, guac, you name it and TL will bring you a plate of deliciousness. If you love authentic mexican food (not that tex-mex or fast food stuff) then you're gong to love Taqueria Lupita! The first thing you'll notice is that it's a tiny, family run place. They care about their customers and the quality of food. It's perfect for a date night or a lunch run. Often I'll call ahead and pick up my meal. I've been coming here for several months and I always order their soft tacos and tostadas. I prefer non-spicy, flavorful mexican food, therefore, I strongly recommend trying these without any sauce.. it's so tasty on it's own, you don't need to add anything to it. However, if you like spicy, they have plenty of other menu items to choose from. Can't recommend this place enough!

Very authentic, very fresh, yet humble in good kind of way. The most unusual salsa's you've ever had. Maybe not the yummiest in the classic sense but addictive just the same. HUGE burritos, made-to-order soups, tacos that have no cheese, tomato, sour cream or anything else you'd expect but they do have radish and they're cheap and awesome. Interesting specialties like chicken with pumpkin-seed sauce (very good). Many meat choices including goat and tongue for the more adventurous. As close as you'll get to eating like a real Mexican without leaving Rhode Island. If you're looking for Tex-Mex, this aint it but if you keep your mind open to new tastes you'll probably love it (or at the very least appreciate it). This is a real family operation, very charming, and would get 5 starts from me were it not for the fact that the TV always dominates the ambiance and there is no air conditioning. I'm good with the small size, less than perfect cleanliness and the very modest decor otherwise, but that's just where I draw the line.

I really have to give credit to Yelp for this one. I've passed by this restaurant a number of times and never thought to go in. After looking on Yelp for new places I couldn't help but to notice how highly rated this one was. I came here with my boyfriend one day after the gym, we were pretty hungry, but didn't want to spend too much on lunch. I ordered the Mexican sandwich and he ordered one of the lunch specials. We also got, what I believe was ...freshly juiced strawberry and mango juice. I loved the feeling inside. The decor and atmosphere made me feel like I was on vacation - not to mention it was a 90 degree day and there was a great breeze coming in from outside. As the other reviews state, this restaurant is family run. It was really nice to see the mother and son cooking together and father serving.

I think this place is about as good as you're going to find in the northeast. The place is small and the things came out kind of slowly, but it was delicious. I had the fish tacos, which contained super fresh nice whole filets, not the tiny indiscernible bits/crumbles of fish you get most places. The quesadillas were probably the biggest hit at the table. We got the chicken one and it was like a chicken fajita dish stuffed into the tortillas - tons of peppers, onions, and chicken. As someone used to flat, lifeless quesadillas, this was a revelation. As mentioned in a lot of other reviews, the guacamole was great too. Chorizo taco was to die for. The neighborhood is fine. The people complaining about feeling unsafe there need to get a grip.

My love, my joy... Lupita and her chorizo. Best chorizo ever. And I mean ever. Spicy, cinnamony, special - it's delectable and authentic and I can't get enough of it. They make it there, so I have to go and sit in this adorable family-run spot with great Mexican pride and a soccer match on the telly. I order 2 tacos (one chorizo, one tingas) and a cold Pacifico and I'm in heaven. Oh, the guacamole, too which is chock full of garlic, tomato, onion and cilantro -- like a proper guac should be. The waiter is the husband, which I love. The wife cooks everything to order and I honestly feel like I'm in their home. I LOVE it here. I bet you will, too!

The yelpers are spot-on. This place is so great. It's a real hole-in-the-wall place on the middle of Central Falls. Bottom line - this is not a fine dining experience, but it's amazing nonetheless. The area is fine. Honestly, hubs was nervous and my response was, "I have lived in worse areas, this is fine." (I am from rural Rhode Island...) The owner was our server, and the place was pretty quiet on a Saturday night. We promptly received a greeting and menus after seating ourselves. Shortly after we received our beers and super-spicy but really yummy chips and salsa. We each ordered 3 tacos and a tamale, which ended up being way more than enough to satisfy our appetites. The food is authentic and really so very tasty and fresh. When the owner gave us the bill, I had to thank him and let him know how yummy it was. Btw, for 2 beers, salsa and chips, 3 tamales, 5 tacos, our bill was a measly $24. Thanks Taqueria Lupita, I'll be back soon.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Lupita's yet. My little California heart is so thankful that this tasty little Mexican restaurant exists here in Rhode Island. Where else would I go to get my taco fix? Pretty much everything is good here, including the monster burritos, which I dare you to try to finish. Even the soups are top notch. Try the chicken pozole (make sure you get it spicy) and you will not be disappointed. This is a small place and the decor is minimal. People don't come here for the ambiance. The bathroom leaves much to be desired, so if you are sensitive to that type of thing, go before you go!

I am so happy to have found Taqueria Lupita! I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find a Mexican place I wouldn't turn my nose up at if it were in Los Angeles, and finally, here is one that would be right at home. Like other reviewers have noted, this is not Tex Mex, and the husband and wife team is just lovely. My husband had chicken with mole and I had chicken with a pumpkin seed sauce. Both of us found the spice level perfect and the absence of cheese shows you the food can stand on its own without it, but the real clincher was when I touched my fork to the chicken, it just fell right off the bone. We both went "ooh" before we even tasted the food. Definitely go, and then go back again and again! I'm going to!

This is that place you always think about when you imagine a "hidden gem" type Mexican restaurant. The food is made in a tiny and completely open kitchen by a smiling and warm woman who works with the ease and expertise that only a lifetime of cooking can provide. Every dish feels like putting on a lovingly knitted sweater, you can taste the years put into every recipe. It's the real deal.

Good little place. Burrito is massive, and the barbacoa in it was nice and tender. Get it with jalapenos. I hesitate to use the word bland because it was very authentic, but it could use a bit more something. The salsa verde helped and made it quite enjoyable. I have mixed feelings for this place, but I'll start by saying that I'd come back here for certain items and not others. The Good: They have Mexican Coke, brought in from New York. Five stars for that. The steak was super spicy but absolutely delicious. It comes on a hot plate with a side of tortillas. It was a little too spicy for my boyfriend, but I loved every bite of his meal. ;) You get free chips and salsa. Remember this before you order Nachos. The Bad: The chicken quesadilla, on the other hand... not so good. It's literally just chicken (no cheese or spices) in a puff pastry. I was hoping for some kind of kick, but it was very bland. The Nachos.. for $6 were a bit weak. It was a plate of flat nachos with just some cheese, vegetables and guacamole on them. I ate them, but would have been just as happy with the free chips and salsa. Overall, I'd come back here for that steak any day and I'd love to try a few other things. I really want to love this place so I hope to come back for an updated review.

Best. Mexican. in RI. I am very hard to please when it comes to Mexican food. As a 1st generation Mexican American, I find that when people recommend their favorite Mexican place to me, I am usually headed for disappointment. It's not their fault, but what I'm looking for is my Mom or Mama Grande's food, and most places substitute salt, grease, and large portions for the flavor and love for cooking that you can taste in a real Mexican meal. Not so with Lupita. This place was recommended by another child of Mexican immigrants whose opinion I respect, and he didn't let me down. Every thing I have put in my mouth out of this place is a good experience. The tacos are made to order, the ingredients fresh. Even their drinks are delicious and made in front of you (horchata or flavored rice water, aguas de fruta or fresh fruit water) if you are lucky enough to get there before they run out! On top of that, the owners are friendly, immigrants from Puebla and are gracious hosts, really rounding out the meal experience. I brought a foodie here and was a little worried at what she would think since she tends to favor the high end places in Newport and Providence, but she loved her shrimp skillet. I was also happy to find that we were able to feed a friend with food allergies (nut, dairy, gluten) without problems, and I think that speaks to their keep it fresh, simple and good approach. In summary, Taqueria Lupita is one of my very favorite places to eat, and the best Mexican I have eaten in Rhode Island. Enjoy, but save some for me!

Went last week. I am not really one to like the heat so I have to minus a star for not having any a/c. I was not aware of this. They also don't have pico and authentic salsas are too hot for me. I will stick with El Rancho Grande, but here is my review...The guacamole is fresh and very good. Steak burrito is huge and was also very good. It was supposed to have guacamole in it though and it did not. My bf liked his carnitas and both the chipotle and verde salsas. The flan was good but not the best I have had. They have mexican coke so that is nice. I like that is a small family run place. If I am in the area I may go back if it is not a hot day but I won't go out of my way for it.

I have to update this review to reflect just how much I like this place. We've been back and I've followed my GFs lead and gotten the mole and tacos. Also had the sangria and it was great. The family that runs it are just nice people who can make great food. These are absolutely my favorite tacos in the area, hands down. And it's really easy to get to. As a Rhode Islander I will often not visit a favorite restaurant because it is 'fah' or the dreaded 'wicked fah' however every time I go back here I kick myself for putting off a visit. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant.......discovered it during the Blackstone Valley Culineria event last year. Food is fresh - service is great. A cozy place and just a quick jump from the East Side. My favorite dish is the enchilladas (chicken or cheese) and my husband loves the HUGE burittos. We've never been disappointed. Add a pitcher of sangria and you've got a party ! Highly recommend.

Place was completely empty on a Sat night when we came in. Totally family owned and run which is cool. I ordered the carne asada ($10) and a mango batido. They served tortilla chips and red and green salsa. This was a tasty start to the meal and when the food came out, I dug into it ravenously. The beef was lightly salted and subtle but cooked how I liked it. The tortillas they served were a bit thicker than normal and very tasty. The dish was served with beans and rice along with lettuce and tomatoes. Plenty of food but as in usual fashion, I had no problem putting it away. The mango shake wasn't too sweet but still delicious. Enjoyable experience. I also tasted their chicken with pumpkin seed dinner which was quite interesting. Different taste but definitely get the pumpkin essence but also very spicy.

First of all, let me say that as far as I could tell, the ingredients were among the freshest I've ever had. In a heartbeat I would come back for Mango Milkshakes and Nachos - both were absolutely wonderful. Pastor wasnt available. Quesadilla off the mark. Deep fried, cheese wants even melted (kids dish) Wife found her meal tasteless. Limes where old and dry. Went here when I first moved to Central Falls. Overall the experience was great. Very small place, few tables. Very attentive staff. Pretty good menu. The tortillas are homemade. The mole has such an amazing texture that you want to roll your tongue around in your mouth with every bite. They make licuados (they call them batidos) in several flavors including guanabana. They also make homemade horchata that is perfect, not too sweet and with a pleasant rice texture. The refried beans don't have any lard in them. They regularly have several kinds of tamales on the menu, including several vegetarian varities. Even when they venture into the non-authentic, they get it absolutely perfect. I ordered fish tacos, possibly against my better judgment. I was hoping for that perfect taste of coleslaw-topped Mexicali heaven that I had once on the west coast, and hoping against all hope not to get that special piece of deep-fried New England hell that I ate once at Mr. Taco. What I got was neither, and better than both: pan seared tilapia dressed simply with lime juice, garlic and salt, served with cilantro in a tortilla. The whole thing just demonstrated a profound ability of the owner/cook not to get in her own way and let good food taste good without complicating it too much. It was delicious. I'm also in love with her chiles rellenos. I've had chiles rellenos done a few different ways, but the way I'm most used to is poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried, then covered in a tomato sauce. Lupita does a variation on a traditional dish called Chiles en Nogada. Chiles en Nogada is typically made by stuffing the chiles with meat mixed with spices, nuts, and fruits. Lupita's version is vegetarian, stuffing the chiles with cheese and topping them with the spice/fruit/nut mixture and a light drizzle of sour cream. They are just heavenly, and the sweetness perfectly offsets the mild heat of the poblano chile. The only thing I have to warn you is, the food is not made mild for the American crowd. The guacamole is spicy. So are the pepper and cheese tamales. I brought my kids here, and the owner bent over backwards making them snacks of tortillas with cheese so they could have something to eat, but mostly their palates were overwhelmed by the spices. We make a point of coming here without them.

I lived for 3 years just north of the big Mexican neighborhood in Chicago (Pilsen/Little Village) and I have weakness for good, cheap, authentic, Mexican chow. I have found very few places in the Northeast that make the grade. Taqueria Lupita is a rare find. It is definitely off the beaten path but well worth it. They do phenomenal tostadas. Their Al Pastor is great. Don't waste your time with burritos (not that they wouldn't be incredible) but their tostadas and tacos absolutely crush anything else I have had in at least a couple hours drive.

I was in Central Falls on business from NYC and stopped here for dinner. Had the shrimp in chipotle sauce. Was amazing. Even the mango juice drink, beans, rice, chips and salsa were amazing. No, there is no air conditioner, but it wasn't unbearable. Had a lovely conversation with the owner, who made my dish exactly as spicy as I had wanted and served them in a beautifully sizzling sauce. Have we found the perfect Taco?? Well...almost. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here a week ago on a rainy friday night. We were the only 2 people there - arrived at 9:15PM. The owners were sitting around and prepared some great dishes for us. Place is small but very quaint and cozy. I ordered Tacos and these may be the best I have encountered here in the Northeast so far. The tortillas were incredible - fresh, warm, with a little toasty/oily taste. They were filled with delicious carnitas, toasted onion (a little different from most taco places) and cilantro. Both their red and green chili sauses were great. These tacos were maravilloso! My wife enjoyed the carne asada which comes with rice and beans. No compliants. A mexican coke and fresh sangria made this a memorable meal. Don't ever think of eating at Taco Bell with this place nearby! The quest for the perfect taco goes on......

I went here late in the afternoon on a Tuesday, so it was just me, the owners, a sleeping grandchild, and Mexican soap operas on the TV. My order was simple: pozole and a Coke. Lupita herself told me her pozole was made today with chicken, not pork; I love the pork/hominy taste combination and I was afraid chicken might make this soup bland, but I ordered anyway. It was amazing. Shredded chicken, plump hominy, lots of shredded vegetables and a very spicy, multidimensional broth that pulled it all together. The serving was so large that I ended up taking half of it home. The Mexican Coke was a treat. I can't wait to go back to try the tamales and tacos. And a word about the neighborhood: so many Yelp reviewers feel the need to disparage the neighborhoods these fabulous, inexpensive ethnic restaurants are located in. I live near Apsara in South Providence, and see these comments in many of the reviews, like "a little sketchy", or "scary after dark", or whatever. You couldn't be more wrong. These neighborhoods are places where good families raise their kids and try to make a go of their small businesses; they just have a lot less money than most Yelpers. In my 10 years in South Providence, I have never felt threatened, any time of day, and unless you're a 20-year-old gangbanger with a grudge to settle, I promise you won't be either. I'm sure the same holds for Central Falls. Get over yourselves!

Ahhh no. Bland is not a word I have ever associated with Mexican food. Maybe we hit them on a day when they were out of cilantro or cumin or salt, but the three of us found ourselves reaching for salt and the two salsas on the table to add some flavor to the taco, burrito and chilaquiles we ordered. Maybe if we had ordered something with meat in it. Now that I think of it, I was even adding salt to the salsa and chips at the start, thinking the salsa was a little flat - good heat, but lacking in flavor. The service was very good, the quantities bountiful for the price, but we won't be going back.

After living in California for many years and eating Mexican food from the best places outside of Mexico, when I moved to RI to finish school I thought the Mexican food in RI was just bland and bad. RI doesn't seem to have a taste for Mexican food. Then I found this place. The food is just amazing. The owners are from the Mixtec area of southern Mexico. I have spent time in Oaxaca Mexico( it is part of the Mixtec area) and the food reminds me of my time there. This place even puts to shame a lot of the Mexican joints that I grew up on in California. Go here, you won't regret it.

Let me just start of by saying the only Mexican food I've ever eaten was Taco Bell and a Mexican restaurant in my homework of Seekonk called Tito's Cantina. So it was safe to say I had never had authentic Mexican food before. My girlfriend decided it was time for me to finally try real authentic Mexican food so she took me to TaquerÃa Lupita. I didn't know what to expect and was concerned I would absolutely hate it and crush my girlfriend's hopes and dreams of this place because she loves it. When you first walk in its a very tiny restaurant with limited seating. There is only about four or five tables so it's isn't the ideal place for a large group. Also the entire menu is in Spanish, so if you don't know Spanish you can still get by pretty well, but it would help to have someone who knows it. Mostly to explain what the foods are rather than to help order. The menu is surprisingly lengthy and is filled with a wide variety of authentic Mexican food. They have tamales, tacos, tostadas, burritos, and various soups such as spicy beef and vegetable, tortilla soups, and black bean soup. They also have seafood dishes and a dinner menu which includes carnitas, Adobo De Puerco, and Beef tongue in green sauce. The server provides you with free salsa (red and green) and be warned the green is very spicy. The chips included with the salsa are hand made in the restaurant as well as the salsa. The service was exceptional everyone was very nice and when my girlfriend was coughing from swallowing too big of a bite the waitress brought over a glass of water to make sure she was feeling better. With it being my first time my girlfriend suggested I get several different foods from the menu. So I decided to get two tacos one chicken (pollo) and one carne asada. You can get the tacos either on a corn or flour tortilla, both of which are also made in house. I decided to get both in the flour tortillas. Also the tacos are served with onions, cilantro, radishes, and lime in the taco. Then I also got a Red with Pork tamale, and a tostada. My girlfriend got the burrito and it was humongous. The food was amazing! I have never had anywhere with better Mexican food in my life. I kept telling my girlfriend as I approached the last bites of my food that I didn't want it to end. I just kept wanting more and more. The tacos were made to perfection, and all of the flavors worked so well together. I personally liked the carne asada taco better than the chicken taco. The tostada was so good as well and although it is difficult to eat, I found myself desperately wanting another one. The tamale was so tasty, I had never had a tamale before so when they served it to me in the corn husk I almost started eating the tamale while it was inside the corn husk. Luckily my girlfriend told me you have to unwrap the corn husk first to get to the tamale. I was able to have several bites of the burrito because like I said it was huge and just like everything else it was amazing. The prices at TaquerÃa Lupita are very fair. The tacos are $2 for corn tortillas and $2.50 for flour tortillas each. The burrito was $7.99, the tostada was $2.00, and the tamale was $2.00 each. The restaurant also has a special lunch menu from 11 AM - 3 PM. There is a catering menu if you want to have TaquerÃa Lupita cater a party of yours as well as pick up. There is no delivery for this establishment. Overall, TaquerÃa Lupita is the best Mexican food I've ever had and it should be everyones next stop for lunch or dinner. I will definitely be returning as soon as I can.

Fantastic food in a not-so-fantastic 'hood. Sometimes you gotta just bite the bullet (hopefully not literally) in order to find great Mexican food (and not that tex-mex crap). If you want authentic, mouth-watering, made with love food then head to Taqueria Lupita. Our server was literally running the joint when I went with a co-worker for a quick working lunch. I'm pretty sure he was taking orders, cooking, and serving everything. He was pretty good at multi-tasking. I ordered up three tacos, including the lengua (tongue), al pastore, and tinga (shredded chicken). They were out of barbacoa, but I survived. Oh, their barbacoa is goat, not beef just FYI. I was feeling adventurous. The prices are great, my friend's burrito was humongous, and their cold drinks include my favorite, mandarin jarritos. Everything was delicious, and I got a great lunch for ten bucks, including tip. The place is tiny, but week day lunch was rather slow paced. I could see it getting packed in the evenings. Well worth the trip in to Central Falls to this gem of a taqueria. Delicious.

The reviews weren't wrong on this one. Very good tacos, tamales and burritos. Guacamole was great, with chunks of tomatos, onions and cilantro...very flavorful. Small place with about 5 tables but we came on a Saturday around 6pm and were the only ones there for awhile until a few more tables filled up. We parked on street but it it were a busier time, I'm not sure where we would have found space. Maybe there's a lot we missed somewhere. I would definitely come here again.

Best Mexican food I've had in Rhode Island! It seems to be a mother-daughter operation. The owners are very friendly. We had the pineapple pork (al pastor) and goat tacos. The meat are very flavorful and corn tortillas terrific. They also sell the meats by the pound . Although the neighborhood isn't the best, I'll come back for the food. Everything is fresh and taste very yummy.

This place is the best of the best when it comes to Mexican. I'm from Lincoln and live 3 minutes away and I come here all the time. I've told my friends about this place and at first they were nervousness because it's in central falls but eventually caves because this place is so good. To all the people talking about how the location is so important and how it's in a bad area - especially you Jaclyn P from Barrington - this is the nice part of CF. Clearly you've never been to south providence if you think Dexter street is the "elephant in the room". I come here anytime I want Mexican. The family is nice and the portions and price are perfect.

Eh. We tried this place because it had so many good reviews on yelp. It was just OK... but barely just OK. We wish we'd stuck with Taco Mix which we really love. Admittedly, having lived in OC CA, we find the Mexican food here plain, kinda odd and woefully disappointing, but Taco Mix is about as good as it gets this North East of the border. Taqueria Lupita's complimentary chips and salsa were eh OK - served in cute piggie bowls and our side of guacamole with lots of fresh cilantro was reaaaaally reeeeaaaalllly good ;). Sadly our burritos had none of the menu's promised guacamole (such a major disappointment when you don't eat meat... iceberg lettuce and black beans does not make a good cohesive burrito!). It was so bland and blah and I didn't even keep the leftovers (and I ALWAYS keep my leftovers ;) We wouldn't go back or recommend it. Sigh.

The absolute best Mexican food in all of RI. Having grown up in Houston as a Mexican, I have had quite a bit of Mexican food in my lifetime. The tamales rival those lovingly made by my grandmother. And yes Mexican food is regional, just like American. Everything is fresh and lots of lime makes it even better. If you are used to Tex-Mex or chain-type Mexican food then you may not appreciate how good their food is. FYI, sour cream is not Mexican, nor is yellow processed cheese, so don't expect that on your plate. Do expect authentic, delicious cooking. And the mole is perfect. I love how other's are concerned about the neighborhood. We ride our bikes here and never have had even the slightest issue. Actually the drivers are more polite than those in most areas we ride. It's also offensive to describe it as being in the ghetto, look up the history of that word. The owners and their family are wonderful. We love to support small local businesses such as theirs.

Ok. Let's address the elephant in the room here folks....the neighborhood isn't the greatest. To be quite frank, I would not venture here alone and I probably wouldn't chance it if we hadn't found a parking spot directly across the street from the restaurant. That being said, round up as many friends as you can and make your way to Taqueria Lupita. If it were not for the the locale, it'd be a 5 star for sure! The couple that owns the restaurant is so friendly and welcoming. The menu is varied enough but definitely authentic. We started with chips and guac, of course - so fresh and served with the classic red and green sauces. My husband ordered the the spicy chicken soup and basically fell in love at the first bite. He was also enamored with the tamale he ordered. My fish tacos were delicious and very generously portioned. I loved that I could watch my tortillas being made to order right in the kitchen. We ordered a few drinks and home made flan for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. The decor is a little bare-bones but honestly the food more than makes up for it!

Yes! For all of those transplanters in Providence who once lived among Mexican expats, this is a great place to eat. The plates of food that came out had some of the best presentation I've ever seen. We were star struck by how nice they looked for just a few tacos or tortilla casserole. I've eaten at some fancy places and this ranks right up there with them. Don't let the decor fool you. This family knows what they are doing in the kitchen. Although they do have vegan options. Yeah. That's right. They have food that vegans can eat. I tried a variety of tamales and tacos and although they were all amazing- the Al Pastor was so good that I thought I was dreaming. Big hunks of lean pork and pineapple in a red sauce. Oh... I'll be back. Oh yes I will. Here's the down side that took the 5th star from my love of this place. The prices. What would have made them perfect is tamales and tacos for less than $2 instead of $2 each. Fickle, aren't I?

This place was awesome! We went there on Cinco De Mayo for lunch. We ate chips and salsa (comes with 2 salsas green and red) a side of rice and beans 2 tacos and 2 tostadas. I ate 1 carnitas taco and a beef taco. They were absolutely amazing. Such simple flavors and very fresh and authentic. My co worker got 2 steak tostadas that were piled high with fresh ingredients. We split the rice and beans. Total out meal was $14.58 !! Such a great deal. We left really full and happy! We will deff be going back there! Also you can call ahead and then eat your food there. It's a really small place so calling ahead is a good idea.

If you are not afraid to drive through the ghetto to get here, it is a great eatery. Very unassuming and with no bells and whistles in the decor. It is straight forward Mexican food and delicious at that. We had the guacamole and it left me wanting another order. The tamales were pretty good and the carne asada tacos were delicious. I would have the sangria, but avoid the tap water. Central Falls isn't known for great tasting tap water.

This place may not be much to look and and the location may be a bit sketchy, but they are pushing out some really good food here. My husband had beer (bottles only) and I had some delicious sangria. We ordered too much food. They brought up chips with a red and green sauce to start. We started with the guacamole, which was freshly made, only $2.50, and perfect. We also ordered the chicken quesadillas which were great. You could easily make a meal out of that. I had the chicken mole. The chicken was on the bone and still had the skin on. I know it makes me a lazy American, but I prefer my chicken boneless and skinless. Having said that, it came off the bone real easily and the mole sauce was very flavorful. Rice and beans also came with it and they both got a thumbs up. My husband ordered the filete de pescado and got quite a few large chunks of white fish. His was served with rice and lettuce, to ago and avocado. Thumbs up from him as well. Fresh tortillas were served with both. I would definitely return, I would just order less food.

Taqueria Luptia, you make my Texan belly so happy. I'll say that the location of this place is not the best as there is only street parking available. Still totally worth the trip. For sure. Ryan D. and I have our go-to places for Mexican in Cranston and on Broadway St. but I've heard people rave about this place for months so we deiced that it was finally worth a try. Btw, we've been to this place twice in two weeks. Walking into this little place, it reminds me of the local places in South Texas. Authentic decorations and it's family-owned (which I LOVE). We sat down and took a look at the menu. Guys, they have fresh guacamole for $2.50! How fresh you might ask? I watched the guy cut open a brand new avocado to make it. INSANE price considering most places charge upwards of $9.00 for "fresh" guacamole. Oh yeah, it tastes AMAZING too. I went with three tacos that had pork, fresh chorizo and carne asada. So good. Fresh and delcious and made with lots of love. Ryan ordered a torta with carnitas and he inhaled it. Duh. During our second trip to this joint, I ordered their homemade sangria and it is incredible. I'm obsessed. In short, try this place. It's cheap, genuine and delicious.

Ahh Taqueria Lupita, where can you not go wrong. Have you been looking for Taco Bell prices but some quality (and authentic) Mexican? Well TL is definitely where you need to go. I was honestly skeptical because I have hit up the usual Providence area Mexican places and figured, eh could just be another ok Mexican. Nope, this is a family run, really good Mexican place that you might accidentally drive by if you aren't looking. Everything on the menu is great, Tortas, tacos, meat dishes, guac, you name it and TL will bring you a plate of deliciousness. This is a no-frills, hole-in-the wall place. The food was authentic and delicious. It wasn't the best Mexican I've ever tasted though. We had an assortment of tacos which were delicious. If you love authentic mexican food (not that tex-mex or fast food stuff) then you're gong to love Taqueria Lupita! The first thing you'll notice is that it's a tiny, family run place. They care about their customers and the quality of food. It's perfect for a date night or a lunch run. Often I'll call ahead and pick up my meal. I've been coming here for several months and I always order their soft tacos and tostadas. I prefer non-spicy, flavorful mexican food, therefore, I strongly recommend trying these without any sauce.. it's so tasty on it's own, you don't need to add anything to it. However, if you like spicy, they have plenty of other menu items to choose from. Can't recommend this place enough!

Just seriously delicious. I could eat their tostadas (1 carnitas, 1 carne asada) for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Call ahead if you want to dine in for a quick lunch-- they'll have your food ready to be plated when you get there. Don't be a wimp-- go to Central Falls and eat delicious.

Very authentic, very fresh, yet humble in good kind of way. The most unusual salsa's you've ever had. Maybe not the yummiest in the classic sense but addictive just the same. HUGE burritos, made-to-order soups, tacos that have no cheese, tomato, sour cream or anything else you'd expect but they do have radish and they're cheap and awesome. Interesting specialties like chicken with pumpkin-seed sauce (very good). Many meat choices including goat and tongue for the more adventurous. As close as you'll get to eating like a real Mexican without leaving Rhode Island. If you're looking for Tex-Mex, this aint it but if you keep your mind open to new tastes you'll probably love it (or at the very least appreciate it). This is a real family operation, very charming, and would get 5 starts from me were it not for the fact that the TV always dominates the ambiance and there is no air conditioning. I'm good with the small size, less than perfect cleanliness and the very modest decor otherwise, but that's just where I draw the line.

I really have to give credit to Yelp for this one. I've passed by this restaurant a number of times and never thought to go in. After looking on Yelp for new places I couldn't help but to notice how highly rated this one was. I came here with my boyfriend one day after the gym, we were pretty hungry, but didn't want to spend too much on lunch. I ordered the Mexican sandwich and he ordered one of the lunch specials. We also got, what I believe was ...freshly juiced strawberry and mango juice. I loved the feeling inside. The decor and atmosphere made me feel like I was on vacation - not to mention it was a 90 degree day and there was a great breeze coming in from outside. As the other reviews state, this restaurant is family run. It was really nice to see the mother and son cooking together and father serving.

I think this place is about as good as you're going to find in the northeast. The place is small and the things came out kind of slowly, but it was delicious. I had the fish tacos, which contained super fresh nice whole filets, not the tiny indiscernible bits/crumbles of fish you get most places. The quesadillas were probably the biggest hit at the table. We got the chicken one and it was like a chicken fajita dish stuffed into the tortillas - tons of peppers, onions, and chicken. As someone used to flat, lifeless quesadillas, this was a revelation. As mentioned in a lot of other reviews, the guacamole was great too. Chorizo taco was to die for. The neighborhood is fine. The people complaining about feeling unsafe there need to get a grip.

My love, my joy... Lupita and her chorizo. Best chorizo ever. And I mean ever. Spicy, cinnamony, special - it's delectable and authentic and I can't get enough of it. They make it there, so I have to go and sit in this adorable family-run spot with great Mexican pride and a soccer match on the telly. I order 2 tacos (one chorizo, one tingas) and a cold Pacifico and I'm in heaven. Oh, the guacamole, too which is chock full of garlic, tomato, onion and cilantro -- like a proper guac should be. The waiter is the husband, which I love. The wife cooks everything to order and I honestly feel like I'm in their home. I LOVE it here. I bet you will, too!

The yelpers are spot-on. This place is so great. It's a real hole-in-the-wall place on the middle of Central Falls. Bottom line - this is not a fine dining experience, but it's amazing nonetheless. The area is fine. Honestly, hubs was nervous and my response was, "I have lived in worse areas, this is fine." (I am from rural Rhode Island...) The owner was our server, and the place was pretty quiet on a Saturday night. We promptly received a greeting and menus after seating ourselves. Shortly after we received our beers and super-spicy but really yummy chips and salsa. We each ordered 3 tacos and a tamale, which ended up being way more than enough to satisfy our appetites. The food is authentic and really so very tasty and fresh. When the owner gave us the bill, I had to thank him and let him know how yummy it was. Btw, for 2 beers, salsa and chips, 3 tamales, 5 tacos, our bill was a measly $24. Thanks Taqueria Lupita, I'll be back soon.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Lupita's yet. My little California heart is so thankful that this tasty little Mexican restaurant exists here in Rhode Island. Where else would I go to get my taco fix? Pretty much everything is good here, including the monster burritos, which I dare you to try to finish. Even the soups are top notch. Try the chicken pozole (make sure you get it spicy) and you will not be disappointed. This is a small place and the decor is minimal. People don't come here for the ambiance. The bathroom leaves much to be desired, so if you are sensitive to that type of thing, go before you go!

I am so happy to have found Taqueria Lupita! I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find a Mexican place I wouldn't turn my nose up at if it were in Los Angeles, and finally, here is one that would be right at home. Like other reviewers have noted, this is not Tex Mex, and the husband and wife team is just lovely. My husband had chicken with mole and I had chicken with a pumpkin seed sauce. Both of us found the spice level perfect and the absence of cheese shows you the food can stand on its own without it, but the real clincher was when I touched my fork to the chicken, it just fell right off the bone. We both went "ooh" before we even tasted the food. Definitely go, and then go back again and again! I'm going to!

My fiancé and I happened upon Taqueria Lupita during one of those panging Mexican food cravings that often plagues those originating from the South (and Californians) who have relocated to the Great Bland North. We had mole and carnitas plates, with a side of chips/salsa/guacamole. It was as authentic as it gets. I also feel the need to clarify that authentic Mexican food is typically not as hot/spicy as it's associated with. It's very flavorful but Tex-Mex cuisine typically loads on the heat level to traditional Mexican dishes. To us personally, Taqueria Lupita is authentic Mexican cuisine not Tex-Mex. I noticed a negative review commenting on the spice/heat level below, which is why I mention this. Taqueria Lupita is truly better then most of the Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants we've come across in the DFW area. It's a Mom & Pop place with about 7 or 8 tables with a husband and wife who cook in a home sized kitchen for you...think 'hole in the wall.' It's absolutely worth a visit and if you are also a Southerner who is passing through, deliberating whether you can wait it out - stop by Taqueria Lupita and subdue the monster that quells within.

Good little place. Burrito is massive, and the barbacoa in it was nice and tender. Get it with jalapenos. I hesitate to use the word bland because it was very authentic, but it could use a bit more something. The salsa verde helped and made it quite enjoyable. Looking forward to trying more of the meat options (which they will prepare by the pound for you if you call the day before or so).

I have mixed feelings for this place, but I'll start by saying that I'd come back here for certain items and not others. The Good: They have Mexican Coke, brought in from New York. Five stars for that. The steak was super spicy but absolutely delicious. It comes on a hot plate with a side of tortillas. It was a little too spicy for my boyfriend, but I loved every bite of his meal. ;) You get free chips and salsa. Remember this before you order Nachos. The Bad: The chicken quesadilla, on the other hand... not so good. It's literally just chicken (no cheese or spices) in a puff pastry. I was hoping for some kind of kick, but it was very bland. The Nachos.. for $6 were a bit weak. It was a plate of flat nachos with just some cheese, vegetables and guacamole on them. I ate them, but would have been just as happy with the free chips and salsa. Overall, I'd come back here for that steak any day and I'd love to try a few other things. I really want to love this place so I hope to come back for an updated review.

Best. Mexican. in RI. I am very hard to please when it comes to Mexican food. As a 1st generation Mexican American, I find that when people recommend their favorite Mexican place to me, I am usually headed for disappointment. It's not their fault, but what I'm looking for is my Mom or Mama Grande's food, and most places substitute salt, grease, and large portions for the flavor and love for cooking that you can taste in a real Mexican meal. Not so with Lupita. This place was recommended by another child of Mexican immigrants whose opinion I respect, and he didn't let me down. Every thing I have put in my mouth out of this place is a good experience. The tacos are made to order, the ingredients fresh. Even their drinks are delicious and made in front of you (horchata or flavored rice water, aguas de fruta or fresh fruit water) if you are lucky enough to get there before they run out! On top of that, the owners are friendly, immigrants from Puebla and are gracious hosts, really rounding out the meal experience. I brought a foodie here and was a little worried at what she would think since she tends to favor the high end places in Newport and Providence, but she loved her shrimp skillet. I was also happy to find that we were able to feed a friend with food allergies (nut, dairy, gluten) without problems, and I think that speaks to their keep it fresh, simple and good approach. In summary, Taqueria Lupita is one of my very favorite places to eat, and the best Mexican I have eaten in Rhode Island. Enjoy, but save some for me!

Went last week. I am not really one to like the heat so I have to minus a star for not having any a/c. I was not aware of this. They also don't have pico and authentic salsas are too hot for me. I will stick with El Rancho Grande, but here is my review...The guacamole is fresh and very good. Steak burrito is huge and was also very good. It was supposed to have guacamole in it though and it did not. My bf liked his carnitas and both the chipotle and verde salsas. The flan was good but not the best I have had. They have mexican coke so that is nice. I like that is a small family run place. If I am in the area I may go back if it is not a hot day but I won't go out of my way for it.

I have to update this review to reflect just how much I like this place. We've been back and I've followed my GFs lead and gotten the mole and tacos. Also had the sangria and it was great. The family that runs it are just nice people who can make great food. These are absolutely my favorite tacos in the area, hands down. And it's really easy to get to. As a Rhode Islander I will often not visit a favorite restaurant because it is 'fah' or the dreaded 'wicked fah' however every time I go back here I kick myself for putting off a visit. It really takes no time to get to once you get off 95. So for really short money you can have some great sangria, killer tacos, great mole and nachos and gauc!

Restaurant itself is cozy, clean and nicely decorated with Mexican motif. Couple who own it, originally from Puebla, are very friendly and accommodating. We recently did a take-out on a super-cold night when no one else was there. Tacos de pescado and chiles rellenos: excellent. Carne encebollada: very good. Appetizers and drinks were quite good also.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant.......discovered it during the Blackstone Valley Culineria event last year. Food is fresh - service is great. A cozy place and just a quick jump from the East Side. My favorite dish is the enchilladas (chicken or cheese) and my husband loves the HUGE burittos. We've never been disappointed. Add a pitcher of sangria and you've got a party ! Highly recommend.

Place was completely empty on a Sat night when we came in. Totally family owned and run which is cool. I ordered the carne asada ($10) and a mango batido. They served tortilla chips and red and green salsa. This was a tasty start to the meal and when the food came out, I dug into it ravenously. The beef was lightly salted and subtle but cooked how I liked it. The tortillas they served were a bit thicker than normal and very tasty. The dish was served with beans and rice along with lettuce and tomatoes. Plenty of food but as in usual fashion, I had no problem putting it away. The mango shake wasn't too sweet but still delicious. Enjoyable experience. I also tasted their chicken with pumpkin seed dinner which was quite interesting. Different taste but definitely get the pumpkin essence but also very spicy.

In a heartbeat I would come back for Mango Milkshakes and Nachos - both were absolutely wonderful. Went here when I first moved to Central Falls. Overall the experience was great. Very small place, few tables. Very attentive staff. Pretty good menu. The tortillas are homemade. The mole has such an amazing texture that you want to roll your tongue around in your mouth with every bite. They make licuados (they call them batidos) in several flavors including guanabana. They also make homemade horchata that is perfect, not too sweet and with a pleasant rice texture. The refried beans don't have any lard in them. They regularly have several kinds of tamales on the menu, including several vegetarian varities. Even when they venture into the non-authentic, they get it absolutely perfect. I ordered fish tacos, possibly against my better judgment. I was hoping for that perfect taste of coleslaw-topped Mexicali heaven that I had once on the west coast, and hoping against all hope not to get that special piece of deep-fried New England hell that I ate once at Mr. Taco. What I got was neither, and better than both: pan seared tilapia dressed simply with lime juice, garlic and salt, served with cilantro in a tortilla. The whole thing just demonstrated a profound ability of the owner/cook not to get in her own way and let good food taste good without complicating it too much. It was delicious. I'm also in love with her chiles rellenos. I've had chiles rellenos done a few different ways, but the way I'm most used to is poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried, then covered in a tomato sauce. Lupita does a variation on a traditional dish called Chiles en Nogada. Chiles en Nogada is typically made by stuffing the chiles with meat mixed with spices, nuts, and fruits. Lupita's version is vegetarian, stuffing the chiles with cheese and topping them with the spice/fruit/nut mixture and a light drizzle of sour cream. They are just heavenly, and the sweetness perfectly offsets the mild heat of the poblano chile. The only thing I have to warn you is, the food is not made mild for the American crowd. The guacamole is spicy. So are the pepper and cheese tamales. I brought my kids here, and the owner bent over backwards making them snacks of tortillas with cheese so they could have something to eat, but mostly their palates were overwhelmed by the spices. We make a point of coming here without them.

I lived for 3 years just north of the big Mexican neighborhood in Chicago (Pilsen/Little Village) and I have weakness for good, cheap, authentic, Mexican chow. I have found very few places in the Northeast that make the grade. Taqueria Lupita is a rare find. It is definitely off the beaten path but well worth it. They do phenomenal tostadas. Their Al Pastor is great. Don't waste your time with burritos (not that they wouldn't be incredible) but their tostadas and tacos absolutely crush anything else I have had in at least a couple hours drive.

I was in Central Falls on business from NYC and stopped here for dinner. Had the shrimp in chipotle sauce. Was amazing. Even the mango juice drink, beans, rice, chips and salsa were amazing. No, there is no air conditioner, but it wasn't unbearable. Had a lovely conversation with the owner, who made my dish exactly as spicy as I had wanted and served them in a beautifully sizzling sauce. Have we found the perfect Taco?? Well...almost. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here a week ago on a rainy friday night. We were the only 2 people there - arrived at 9:15PM. The owners were sitting around and prepared some great dishes for us. Place is small but very quaint and cozy. I ordered Tacos and these may be the best I have encountered here in the Northeast so far. The tortillas were incredible - fresh, warm, with a little toasty/oily taste. They were filled with delicious carnitas, toasted onion (a little different from most taco places) and cilantro. Both their red and green chili sauses were great. These tacos were maravilloso! My wife enjoyed the carne asada which comes with rice and beans. No compliants. A mexican coke and fresh sangria made this a memorable meal. Don't ever think of eating at Taco Bell with this place nearby! The quest for the perfect taco goes on......

I went here late in the afternoon on a Tuesday, so it was just me, the owners, a sleeping grandchild, and Mexican soap operas on the TV. My order was simple: pozole and a Coke. Lupita herself told me her pozole was made today with chicken, not pork; I love the pork/hominy taste combination and I was afraid chicken might make this soup bland, but I ordered anyway. It was amazing. Shredded chicken, plump hominy, lots of shredded vegetables and a very spicy, multidimensional broth that pulled it all together. The serving was so large that I ended up taking half of it home. The Mexican Coke was a treat. I can't wait to go back to try the tamales and tacos. And a word about the neighborhood: so many Yelp reviewers feel the need to disparage the neighborhoods these fabulous, inexpensive ethnic restaurants are located in. I live near Apsara in South Providence, and see these comments in many of the reviews, like "a little sketchy", or "scary after dark", or whatever. You couldn't be more wrong. These neighborhoods are places where good families raise their kids and try to make a go of their small businesses; they just have a lot less money than most Yelpers. In my 10 years in South Providence, I have never felt threatened, any time of day, and unless you're a 20-year-old gangbanger with a grudge to settle, I promise you won't be either. I'm sure the same holds for Central Falls. Get over yourselves!

Coming from Southern California the lack of authentic Mexican food on the East Coast has been killing me... until I met Taqueria Lupita. This is my goto Mexican place in Rhode Island, come here if you know what's authentic and want it. Also cheap as sin and terribly nice owners.

Ahhh no. Bland is not a word I have ever associated with Mexican food. Maybe we hit them on a day when they were out of cilantro or cumin or salt, but the three of us found ourselves reaching for salt and the two salsas on the table to add some flavor to the taco, burrito and chilaquiles we ordered. Maybe if we had ordered something with meat in it. Now that I think of it, I was even adding salt to the salsa and chips at the start, thinking the salsa was a little flat - good heat, but lacking in flavor. The service was very good, the quantities bountiful for the price, but we won't be going back.

Very happy I tried this place! I had the chile relleno...delicious and different. It had raisins, pineapple and walnuts on it. The fish tacos also looked excellent. I'll be back!

I've been going to this hidden gem for about 10 years now. It is the best taqueria I've ever been to, the family running it is wonderful, and the drinks are awesome (Tamarind, yum)! Everything tastes fresh and delicious :)

This place came highly recommended and with my affinity for cheap mexican food I was glad to partake. Overall its an experience, hole in the wall joint in the middle of nothing with authenticity coming out its arse. To be honest I will go back but it was way under par. Like someone earlier said it was bland and that's truly unfortunate when its comes to mex food. The mole was amazing but nothing else had any wow. Try again another time...

This place is the real deal. I probably wouldn't bring my kids in there after dark, but the food authenticity is first rate. Cooked to order and they want to know you like it. Now if only I could convince them to serve a Sonoran Hot Dog...

Mexican style food with good service. It sort of felt like eating in someon'e living room, but nice waiters. Carne asada and cheese enchildas were yum. Coke was imported and served in a glass bottle, expensive. Guac was spicy but I liked it.

this is the hidden jewel of R.I Mexican food. Every thing was great. We happened on it by accident. the food is all home made, we could see the owner and cook making our torrillias by hand. Just enough heat to enjoy the food, nothing over powering just plain delicious. if you happen to like real Mexican food, meet great people at an affordable price, dont wait go to 765 dexter street in central fall. II know we will be back.

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've been to since moving back to RI from CA. The quality and quantity of the food is astounding (considering how small the kitchen is). El Sombrero was good, but I think I might like Taqueria Lupita better. And it's wicked cheap! I suggest take out since the place is so small.

The best mexican I've had in New England, and arguably the best I've had anywhere. Burritos are gigantic, salsa actually tastes like salsa, cheap sides of guacamole, nice selection of beer. I went there for my graduation dinner.

The food was excellent as was the sangria!!! By boyfriend had the taco platter and I had the chicken burrito. We had the fish tacos as an appetizer. The portions were quite large and I took home the majority of the burrito. This is truly a "mom and pop" restaurant and they treat you like family. Very friendly and easygoing!

To keep this short, this is hands down the best Authentic Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island! It is worth the drive to 'scary' Central Falls no matter where in the state you're coming from and would be worth the cost even if they raised the prices two-fold! The food is remarkably fresh, well prepared and obscenely inexpensive. Stop reading and go now... Seriously.. Go!
